Job Role Definition
Administrator IBM Cognos 8 Planning – Manages the technical deployment of applications, reviews hard-
ware and software requirements, and plans and supports the overall system infrastructure.
Installs, configures, and optimizes the system.
IBM Cognos Finance – Plans, creates, secures and maintains the Cognos Finance application.
Analyst IBM Cognos 8 TM1 – Manipulates business data to discover and understand trends and
exceptions, and perform predictive analysis. May also create and customize predefined
reports and templates for use by others.
Application IBM Cognos 8 TM1 – Designs and builds multi-dimensional models, maps data flow, applies
Developer business logic, and executes loads from transactional systems. Browses reports and cubes
on an ad hoc basis. Responsible for development and/or maintenance of applications.
IBM Cognos 8 Controller – Sets up and maintains consolidation structures. Defines and
modifies necessary consolidation rules, structural definitions and maintain security definitions
such as access rights and period locking. Works with currency conversion, intercompany
transactions, and investments in subsidiaries, as well as define configuration settings.
Author IBM Cognos 8 Controller – Builds sophisticated reports. Responsible for gathering report
requirements, creating the reports and deploying them.
IBM Cognos Finance – Builds reports and input forms. Responsible for deploying reports
through the Web and monitoring and controlling data collection.
Contributor IBM Cognos 8 TM1 – Views reports, presentations and dashboards, may input data into templates.
IBM Cognos 8 Planning – Contributes to plans, budgets, or forecasts and produces reports.
May also input data and approves submissions from others.
Modeler IBM Cognos 8 Planning – Sets up and maintains the Cognos 8 Contributor applications.
Defines and modifies the business rules, hierarchical definitions, and table relationships.
Defines and maintains source data mapping, executes loads from transactional systems, and
maintains security definitions. Analyzes business data to discover and understand trends and
exceptions, and performs predictive modeling. Creates and customizes predefined reports for
use by others using the Cognos 8 Manager tool.
Project Manager Understands the business needs and responsible for identifying business questions, validating
requirements and design, and representing the business in the user community. Represents
business needs in the design of a new Cognos 8 Planning or Cognos Finance model.
